13.06.08 The insurance industry research centre at
Thatcham has released data that suggests smaller city
cars are not effective when it comes to reducing the
effect of whiplash injuries following an accident. Up
to 11 family cars failed rudimentary tests on safety
despite advertising to the contrary. "The cars are not
equipped to prevent their occupants" according to the
Thatcham spokesman. The vehicles do not absorb the crash
energy sufficiently which combined with poor seat
design, makes a
whiplash injury following a car accident, far more
likely.
Whiplash injuries cost the insurance industry £1.5
billion each year with more than 432,000
claims.
